Configure an Elastigroup roll in Ansible

Title

You can trigger an Elastigroup roll as part of your Ansible automation. This lets you apply configuration changes and then roll the group directly from your Ansible playbooks, instead of rolling it manually in the Flexera console.

Instructions

Make sure you’re using the Flexera (Spotinst) Ansible module that supports roll_config. For details about all arguments, see the Ansible module argument reference
In your Ansible playbook, add roll_config to the Elastigroup task. The roll_config object controls how the roll behaves after the group is updated.
The roll_config accepts these keys:
1. batch_size_percentage (Integer, required): The percentage of instances to roll in each batch.
2. grace_period (Integer, required): The number of seconds to wait before moving to the next batch.
3. health_check_type (String, optional): The health check mechanism to use during the roll (for example, EC2, ELB, or other supported types).

Add the roll_config block to your Elastigroup task. For example:

- name: Update Elastigroup and roll
  spotinst_elastigroup_aws:
    state: present
    name: my-elastigroup
    # ... other Elastigroup parameters ...
    roll_config:
      batch_size_percentage: 20
      grace_period: 300
      health_check_type: EC2
  register: elastigroup_result
``

Run your Ansible playbook. After the module updates the Elastigroup configuration, the roll_config tells the service to roll the group according to the batch size, grace period, and health checks you defined.

Outcome

After you configure roll_config and run your Ansible playbook, the Elastigroup updates and then rolls automatically. Instances are replaced in batches based on your configuration, which helps you safely roll out changes with controlled impact.
