Snow Inventory Server (SIS) 6.4.0 and later can export one or more .snowpack files using the Snow Inventory Configuration Manager.
Before starting, note the following:
- Exporting .snowpack files does not affect the processing of new or incoming .snowpack files.
- You will need:
- The SQL Server name and, if applicable, the instance name.
- The username and password used in the Snow Inventory database connection string.
- The name or range of names for the devices you want to export.
- Exporting a target system creates a copy of its data. It does not remove the system from Snow Inventory.
- If history is included in the .snowpack file, it contains only history available in Snow Inventory. It does not include history from Snow License Manager.
IMPORTANT: The .snowpack or .inv files exported using this process are not the same as files created by the Snow Inventory Agent. They may not contain data such as Cloud Metering information, software that was not properly collected, custom-collected information, and other Agent-collected data.
- On the Master Server, launch the Snow Inventory Configuration Manager.
NOTE: The Configuration Manager is usually located at:
C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Snow Inventory\Server
- Click Click here for additional Options... in the lower-left corner of the window.
- On the Additional Options page, select Export devices.
- Enter the information required to connect to the Snow Inventory database, including the SQL Server or instance name and the applicable credentials.
- After entering the credentials, verify that the database connection is successful.
NOTE: If the connection fails, click OK and check the connection settings.
- When the connection is established successfully, click OK to open the Export database page.
- Use the Output folder option to select the folder where the exported .snowpack files will be saved.
- If needed, use the available filters to target specific site names or hostnames.
- Export the required .snowpack files.
NOTE: Each .snowpack file can take approximately 3 to 15 seconds to export. Exporting all .snowpack files can therefore take a significant amount of time and is not recommended unless specifically required.
