The default heap size for the FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications Agent is 512 MB. On servers with heavy usage from vendor daemons or those hosting multiple vendor daemons, this default setting may not be sufficient. This can result in the agent, license server, or vendor daemon appearing as "Down" in the web UI, even though they are running correctly.
This performance issue is often caused by the agent running the lmstat command to check license servers. High activity can generate large data sets, causing the agent's message queue to back up. Increasing the heap size can help resolve this issue.
For Windows or Linux with GUI enabled
- Stop the agent service.
- Go to the agent install directory and double-click the
agentconfiguration.batfile (do not run as Administrator).- If errors appear in the command prompt window, ensure the user account running the services has the required permissions.
- Select Show Advanced Settings.
- Select Next until you reach Step 4 of 5.
- Leave Initial Heap Size at the default value and modify Maximum Heap Size:
- Start with 1024 MB.
- If issues persist, increase to 2048 MB.
- Select Next and Save, then restart the agent service.
For Linux without GUI
- Navigate to the agent install directory and open the
config.propertiesfile:
<Agent Install Directory>/conf/config.properties
- Locate the following values and update as needed:
heap.initial=512
heap.maximum=1024
- You can set
heap.maximumto 2048 if 1024 is not sufficient. - If these properties do not exist, add them to the bottom of the file:
heap.initial=512
heap.maximum=2048
- Save the file and restart the agent service.
The Agent will now be able to handle larger data volumes, reducing the risk of random dropouts or "down" statuses in the FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications web UI.
