In environments with user-based application metrics, you may see cases where an older version of an application (for example, Adobe Acrobat 2024 Professional) has been uninstalled but still consumes a license in Snow License Manager with a UI remark (indicating it’s not installed). At the same time, a newer version (for example, Adobe Acrobat 2025 Professional) may be installed but not covered.
This behavior is typically caused by the application metric setting being configured as Users within metering period (commonly set to 90 days). In this case, Snow License Manager continues to track and evaluate metering data for a user’s application usage within the past 90 days, even after the application has been uninstalled. As a result, the uninstalled application is still seen as "in use" and continues to consume a license until that period lapses.
Additionally, if multiple versions of the application exist in the environment, and simultaneous version use is not allowed, the older (uninstalled) version may take precedence, leading to misreporting of license coverage.
To ensure license coverage reflects currently installed applications and not uninstalled versions:
- Enable simultaneous multiple versions
- Go to both the old and new versions of the application in Snow License Manager.
- Select Application > Edit > Additional settings.
- Enable Allow simultaneous multiple versions.
- Note: You must do this for both versions, not only the newer one.
- Update the application metric setting
- Change the metric from Users within metering period to All primary users.
- This ensures licenses are assigned based on the currently installed version and the primary user of the device, rather than relying on historical metering data.
Metric guidance
- Use All primary users for applications tied to individual users, especially for user-based applications assigned to individual users.
- Use All computer users for shared environments such as call centers or VDI pools, where multiple users access the same device.
