You can monitor detached AWS instances by using the tags that Flexera Ocean adds automatically. These tags help you identify when an instance has been detached so you can track or automate actions based on its lifecycle state.
Tag behavior when an instance detaches
When an instance detaches from an Elastigroup, Flexera adds a tag that shows its state:
-
key: spotinst:aws:ec2:state
-
value: detached
How the tag is applied depends on the instance type:
-
Spot instances: The Spot request receives the tag.
-
On‑demand instances: The EC2 instance receives the tag directly.
These tags make it easy to monitor lifecycle changes through AWS tools, automation, or reporting systems.
