Issue
- Trying to access the Snow License Manager (SLM) site through the site name being used and an "Error occurred on the page" is displayed.
- The users are unable to user the SLM web.
And when trying to access SLM from the server with localhost they received following error.
Server Error in '/' Application
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Environment
- SLM 8.1.01
- Inventory Server: 3.7
- .NET 4.7
Analysis
- Checking the IIS Applications Pools we could see that the under Advanced Settings we could see that "Managed Pipeline Mode" was set to Integrated. This was being used due to Security Compliance in the customer environment. When this is used it is recommended to have a Service account being used, which wasn't the case here.
- Tested with a user account with correct access rights and it worked.
- The change was done under "Process Model" -> "Identity" in Advanced Settings.
- Changed the Identity to a Custom account, with proper access rights and it worked to access the SLM webpage both from the Localhost and the SLM site.
Resolution
- Create a Service Account with the correct access rights and groups attached to it.
- Add it "Identity" in IIS / Applications Pools / Advanced settings, then restart the Applications Pools.
Cause
- Incorrect account being used for IIS when settings were "Integrated"
