When running a Snow Agent scan for Windows, you may encounter the following error:
java.io.IOException: The system cannot find the path specified
This issue typically occurs when the temporary directory path defined in the agent’s configuration file (env.temp_dir) does not exist on the machine.
The Snow Agent requires this folder to be available in order to create temporary files during scans.
This issue may affect environments with:
- Java installed
- Snow Agent for Windows 7.x.x
- OMO scanners (Oracle, Middleware, Java, and Hardware scanners)
1. Open the Snow Agent configuration file
- Go to the machine where the Snow Agent scan is failing.
- Navigate to:
C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Inventory\Agent
- Open the file named:
snowagent.config
2. Verify the env.temp_dir setting
- Locate the setting called:
env.temp_dir
- Check the folder path defined in this setting.
- Ensure that the folder exists on the machine.
(For example, if the path isC:\Temp123, that folder must exist in driveC.)
3. Create the required folder
- If the folder defined in
env.temp_dirdoes not exist, create that folder manually in the specified location. - For example, if
env.temp_diris set toC:\Temp123, createC:\Temp123on the machine.
4. Restart the Snow Agent service
- Save the changes to
snowagent.config. - Restart the Snow Inventory Agent service.
5. Run the Snow Agent scan again
- Perform the scan.
- The error should no longer occur.
