Summary
Build time error -1530 occurs in large installations cause and workarounds.Symptoms
When building an InstallShield project, the following error occurs:
Error -1530: The size specified for the disk is too small for the file.
Cause
The size of the built media exceeds the size allotted.
Workaround
Make sure the size of the built release will not exceed the size allotted. The following can influence the total size of the built setup:
- Review the merge modules that are included in the setup. Some merge modules, such as Microsoft Access 97, can add up to an additional 500 MB to the project size.
- Check the Setup Files view in the InstallShield IDE and make sure the Disk1 folder does not contain a large number of files. These files are copied?uncompressed?to the media folder and increase the size of the built setup. Because all files in the Disk1 folder are copied to the first disk, you need to make sure that these files do not exceed the size of one disk. For example, if you are building a CD-ROM build, the files in the Disk1 folder should not exceed approximately 600 MB, as they would not fit on the first CD (even if the setup is spanning multiple CDs).
- Adding languages to a setup increases the size of the built media because each individual language may have unique language-specific files.
- If you are building a custom build, such as a 1.44 MB floppy disk, make sure that the Microsoft Windows Installer engines are not included. The engines for both Windows 9x and Windows NT machines exceed 3 MB in size, and they need to be included on the first disk. Because a floppy disk is only 1.44 MB, the engines will not fit on the floppy, and the Download from the Web option should be selected from the Release Wizard to download these engines from the Web if needed.
Additional Information
If you are using Developer 7.0 SP4 or earlier and select the Custom media type in the Release Wizard, a bug exists that may cause this error message. To resolve this behavior, use one of the following options:
-
In the Release Wizard, increase the Format Size in the Media Type panel until this error no longer occurs.
-
Upgrade to the latest version
This error is briefly documented in the InstallShield Help Library topic Build Errors and Warnings.
