Summary
Error -6207: An error occurred building Setup File [Filename]Symptoms
When building an InstallShield project, the following error may occur:
"Error -6207: An error occurred building Setup File [Filename]"
Alternatively, this error may appear as follows:
"Error -6207: An error occurred building Setup File [Filename]. The file does not exist in the specified location. Check the path to make sure it is correct."
[Filename] is a placeholder that contains the filename that caused the error.
Cause
This error can occur in the following scenarios:
- The file specified in the error message in the Support Files/Billboards section of the project has been corrupted or cannot be located.
-
The file specified in the error message does not exist in the Support Files/Billboards section of the setup, but the setup expects this file to exist in this location.
-
The .NET Installer Class setting for a component is set to Yes, but no key files exist in the component.
Resolution
- Follow these steps to remove all files from the Support Files/Billboards section:
- Select the Support Files/Billboards view.
- Highlight each folder beneath the Support Files/Billboards heading in the center panel.
- Delete any files that exist in any of these folders.
- Rebuild the project.
If the error no longer occurs, begin re-adding each file into this section again. This refreshes all the files and ensure they can be located on the build machine. If the error is due to a corrupt file (or files), this helps you isolate those files causing the problem. Once isolated, remove these files to resolve the error message.
- Select the Support Files/Billboards view.
- Make sure the file specified in the error message is located in the Support Files/Billboards section of the IDE. To accomplish this, follow these steps:
- Select the Support Files/Billboards view.
- Highlight each folder beneath the Support Files/Billboards heading in the center panel.
- Make sure the file specified in the error message exists in one of these folders.
- If it does not, insert it into the Language Independent folder beneath the Support Files/Billboards heading.
-
Rebuild the project.
Because the setup is expecting this file to be located in the Support Files/Billboards section of the project, placing the file in this location resolves the error message during the build process.
- Select the Support Files/Billboards view.
-
If a component installs a .NET assembly that contains a class that is derived from the System.Configuration.Install.Installer ensure that the .NET Installer Class setting is set to yes and make sure to set this file as a key file.
