Symptoms

When building a project in the InstallShield IDE, the following error may occur:

** Fatal Error: -6213: Internal build error

Cause

This error is related to .NET dependency scanning. However, little additional information is known at this time about the specific cause of this error as it rarely occurs and is typically encountered on an intermittent or machine-specific basis.

Workaround

As this error is specific to .NET dependency scanning, the only known workaround currently is to turn off the .NET dependency scanning functionality. To accomplish this, follow these steps:

1. Select the Files view.

2. Select the first file that uses .NET.

3. Right-click the file in the lower right panel and choose Properties.

4. Click the COM & .NET Settings tab.

5. Set the Scan at Build option to a value of None.

6. Repeat steps 3 - 5 for each file that uses .NET.

7. Rebuild the project.

This error will no longer occur during the build process. If you wish to add .NET dependencies or properties to your project, this must now be done manually.
