Summary

Symptoms

When building an InstallShield project, the following warning may occur:

"Warning -6220: Dynamically acquired data [1] conflicts with static data associated with component [2]. Overwriting with dynamic data."

[1] is a placeholder that contains the specific data that will overwrite the existing data, and [2] contains the name of the component from which this COM information is being extracted.

Cause

During the build process, InstallShield Express automatically creates a component. If the .NET Scan at Build property for this component is set to a value other than None, the .NET dependencies and/or properties are extracted from the .NET assembly and written into the MSI tables during the build process. This warning occurs when manual entries made to the MsiAssembly and MsiAssemblyName tables conflict with .NET assembly properties that result from scanning.

This is merely a warning and will not necessarily cause problems with the installation. When data is already contained within the MSIAssembly and MSIAssembly Name tables for a .NET assembly, this indicates that the information was already extracted from the assembly. When the .NET Scan at Build property is used, it dynamically extracts the data during each build to ensure it is the most current and accurate information. Therefore, it should not be a cause of alarm that this data overwrites the data that already exists, as it is the most accurate data available for the assembly.

Resolution

This build warning does not need a resolution as it is merely an informative message. However, this warning can be resolved by using the method below.

Turn off .NET Scan at Build

1. Click on Specify Application Data.
2. Click on the Files view.
3. Right click the file specified in the warning message and select Properties.
4. Click the COM & .NET Settings tab.
5. Click the .NET Scan at Build drop down arrow and select None.
6. Click Ok.
7. Rebuild the release.
