This article shows how one can modify the product version number of an InstallAnywhere installed product in the Add/Remove Programs list in Windows.

Discussion

Upon installing any product using an installer created with InstallAnywhere, the product is added to the Windows Add/Remove Programs list provided it creates an uninstaller. The Product Version number of the product can be viewed by clicking on the link ?Click here for support information?. To update the Product Version in this Add/Remove entry for a second install of the same product in the same location, follow the steps below:

- Let's assume, Project>Description>Version is initially 1.0.0.0. Upon installing, a product entry will be created in the Add/Remove Programs list with version 1.0.0.0

-To update the version for a second install of the same product to 2.0.0.0, add a ?Set Windows Registry - Single Entry? action in the Install sequence of the project advanced designer with the following properties:

Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\$PRODUCT_NAME$

Value Name: DisplayVersion

Data Type: STRING

Data: $PRODUCT_VERSION_NUMBER$

where,

$PRODUCT_NAME$ resolves to the text defined in Project > Info > Product Name field.
