Symptoms

The following error occurs during an installation including a virtual directory in the InstallShield IIS view:
Error with IISRT: -1208

Cause

The error is output into the installation log by the ISIISCosting custom action during the installation. This custom action is only present in the installation if the IIS view (Internet Information Services) is being used in the IDE to create websites and virtual directories.

This runtime error is known to occur if a defined application mapping on a website or virtual directory includes an exec path for any of the mappings is null or empty at runtime.

The situation is not easily reproduced. Manually modifying the ISIISProperty table data and in particular the MetaDataValue column is shown to produce this problem. Manual modification to this table data is not expected under normal use.

Resolution

  • Use the IIS view to fix Application Mappings
  • Review settings and table data in the ISIISProperty table using the Direct Editor view
