EXTERNAL DATA DEPENDENCIES

FlexNet Code Insight is an on-premises solution that can be run without outbound internet access to produce accurate and complete results. Please note the following functionality may be limited or may require an alternative access method if running in offline mode.

Electronic Update: The Electronic Update package is automatically downloaded from the update server over https. Without an outbound connection, users may instead obtain the latest update package directly and configure the FlexNet Code Insight instance to read from this local update package. See the ?Electronic Update: Running a Local Update? section for instructions.

Security Vulnerability Detection: As part of Automated Discovery, FlexNet Code Insight downloads the latest vulnerability data from the National Vulnerability Database (NVD) in real-time with every scan. If outbound internet access is not available at the time of the download, it instead uses the vulnerability data supplied by Electronic Update. As long as you run Electronic Update regularly, vulnerabilities will be detected in the scanned codebase. The real-time download of vulnerability data may be disabled entirely by following these instructions:
1. Open the codeaware.properties file located in FNCI_INSTALL_DIR/config directory. If the file does not exist, create a new file with just the properties listed in the following step.
2. Add or modify the following properties to specify if FNCI should attempt an outside connection at scan time:
# Flag whether to connect online during analysis. Set to true to connect, set to false otherwise.
offline=true
3. Save the file
4. Restart Tomcat

Other Automated Discovery: Other Automated Discovery capability, such as Package Analysis and Component Identification, is available out-of-the box with your FlexNet Code Insight installation and does NOT require outbound internet access. A codeaware.war file is included with every release and unpacked when the application is first launched. If necessary, it can be updated at any time by following these instructions:
1. Obtain the latest version of the Automated Discovery plugin (codeaware.war)
2. Shutdown Tomcat
3. Replace codeaware.war (located in
FNCI_INSTALL_DIR/tomcat/webapps/codeaware) with the new version of the file
4. Restart Tomcat

Remote File Access: As part of advanced analysis for Exact Matches and Source Code Fingerprint matching, FlexNet Code Insight lets you list, view and download files remotely from the Compliance Library. The files are stored on a secure Amazon S3 instance and fetched (read-only) to the Partial Matches panel. Without outbound internet access, the following functionality is not available:
* View Remote File
* Compare with Remote File
* Download Remote File

Please note that ONLY remote file access is limited in offline mode. The ability to detect and view Exact Matches and Source matches in in FlexNet Code Insight does not require an outbound connection.
