This article describes how to troubleshoot the -15 error of FlexNet Licensing (formerly FLEXlm)
Synopsis
When checking our a client application, the -15 error is received. How can this problem be troubleshooted?
Discussion
Error -15 indicates the SERVER and the CLIENT are having difficulty communicating. This is could be caused by the network setup or the network data is not the same as the data in the license file. The data can be the server name, hostid, port number and/or vendor daemon.
The following is the list of items to check and try for this particular error:
- Execute the command to check the network setup (e.g. ipconfig /all on Windows) then compare the data against the SERVER line of license.dat.
- Check the path and name of the vendor daemon. For Windows, make sure that EXE extension is included for the daemon's name.
- Check the TCP/IP is enable in the Control Panel/Network/Protocol.
- Check the property of TCP/IP for correct IP Address (no 255 addresses) and binds to a network.
- Check for the hosts file to contain the server being use.
- Check the Debug Log to confirm that the license server is up running, and identify the TCP port numbers that lmgrd.exe and the vendor daemon are actually using.
- Try TELNET from client to server to determine if the network is functional and if it can establish TCP connection successfully to the specific server ports.
- TELNET <Host_Name_or_IP_Address> <lmgrd_port>
- TELNET <Host_Name_or_IP_Address> <vendor_daemon_port>
- With lmgrd.exe, make certain that -c path is correct.
- Check LM_LICENSE_FILE is set for the intended license file.
- Try port@host or port@ipaddress from the client.
- Try changing the port number.
- Check and make sure the syntax of the SERVER and DAEMON line is correct.
