HOTFIX: Distribute to VM with Invalid Path Results in InstallShield Becoming Unresponsive

Attempting to use the Distribute to VM feature using InstallShield 2014 SP1 and supplying an invalid path causes InstallShield to hang. A hotfix is available.

Symptoms

When attempting to use the "Distribute to VM" feature using InstallShield 2014 SP1 and supplying an invalid path, InstallShield will become unresponsive. A hotfix is available.

Cause

This behavior is the result of a bug in InstallShield 2014 SP1.

Steps To Reproduce

1. Create a sample project and configured to distribute locally to a VMWare Workstation VM.
2. For destination path, enter C:\Test.
3. Build the project and confirm it is successfully distributed to the VM.
4. Change destination path to CTest.
5. Build again, note InstallShield becomes unresponsive.

Resolution

A hotfix is available to resolve this issue. To apply the hotfix, take the following steps:

1. Close Visual Studio and/or InstallShield
2. Download hotfix IOJ-1721173.zip from below
3. Navigate to the InstallShield System folder (locations specified below)
4. Rename VirtualMachineController.dll to ORIG_VirtualMachineController.dll
5. Extract the file VirtualMachineController.dll from IOJ-1721173.zip to the System folder

32 Bit Operating System: C:\Program Files\InstallShield\2014\System

64 Bit Operating System: C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield\2014\System
