Summary
How to disallow a license server running on a virtual machine?
Question
Since it is fairly easy to modify the hostid on virtual machines, license files may be abused by end users on multiple virtual machines so that they can use more than purchased. How to disallow a license server running on a virtual machine?
Answer
The setting 'ls_allow_vm' in the lsvendor.c file can be used to restrict the vendor daemon to a physical or virtual machine only.
The format is : unsigned int ls_allow_vm = PHYSICAL | VM_ONLY | 0 (zero)
By default, the vendor daemon can operate in either a virtual environment or on a physical machine.
To use the non-default values for the ls_allow_vm variable, you must have a set of vendor keys that provides for virtualization support - these can be obtined from the 'orders' department of Flexera Software once this additional 'platform' has been purchased.
