Symptoms:
In today’s world, production Windows Servers are locked down and won’t have internet access through a web browser. It seems that in order to install an ITV Beacon, that specific Windows Server must have internet access through a local web browser in order to create and download the Beacon Config file.
When installing an ITAM Beacon, that is not a requirement. You are able to be logged into Flexera One from another computer (such as a laptop) and copy files back and forth from the laptop to the beacon server to perform the install and configuration of the beacon.
For an ITAM Beacon, you have the option to “manually” configure the beacon without having to click the “Configure a Beacon” link within the Beacon UI and launching a browser. You can perform the following process:
- Download ITAM Beacon Installer on a laptop and copy the installer over to the beacon server
- Install the ITAM Beacon
- Go into the Registry and capture the generated BeaconID
- Go to a laptop and log into the Flexera One UI and navigate to Data Collection/IT Assets/Beacons
- Click on the “Configure a Beacon” button.
- Copy in the Beacon ID, and then create the Config file and download it
- Copy the Config file over to the Beacon Server and import it
Solution:
To configure ITV Beacon, “manually” yes there is no UI option available today. However we have a workaround that user can perform:
- Download ITV Beacon Installer on a laptop and copy the installer over to the beacon server
- Install the ITV Beacon
- Go into the Registry and capture the generated BeaconID
- Go to a laptop and log into the Flexera One UI and navigate to Data Collection/IT Visibility Inventory Tasks/IT Visibility Beacons (e.g url https://app.flexera.com/orgs/{orgid}/udi/beacons)
- Append the BeaconID (removing curly bracket from the BeaconID) at the end of url (e.g https://app.flexera.com/orgs/{orgid}/udi/beacons/EE7904E3-B366-4F67-9CE9-F69646353373)
- Fill in details and hit Save and then Download the configuration.
- Copy the Config file over to the Beacon Server and import it.
