Symptoms

The InstallShield build process may fail in different ways when using Trend Micro Anti-Virus software. Some of the behaviors observed are the following:

When building an InstallShield project:

1. ISDEV : fatal error -6041: Internal build error

2. Error -6002: Error while attempting to run

Resolution

To prevent this behavior, the anti-virus program needs to be disabled or removed to allow build.

1. In some situations the use of Trend Micro Office Scan Version 11.0 does not cause the build error.

2. Disabling the Trend Micro Security Agent RealTime Scan service after shutting it down may resolve the problem. You can expect to exit the Security Agent from the Windows System Tray before the services shut down.

3. If using Trend Micro product exclude the ism, msi and mst extensions from the scanning software.
