This document gives directions on how to repair the integration between the InstallShield product and Microsoft Visual Studio.

Discussion

When the InstallShield product is installed on a development machine where Microsoft Visual Studio is already installed, during install of the InstallShield product, the integration to Visual Studio will automatically be established. This integration allows InstallShield projects to be created from within the Visual Studio work space.
If this integration becomes broken, the integration can be reestablished by one of the following two methods:
  1. Running the tsconfig utility using the "/repairvsip" parameter
  2. Performing a repair on the InstallShield product
Detailed instructions for each method are given below.
Method 1: Repairing integration by using the tsconfig utility
This method of repair is only available with InstallShield version 2010 or later. If the version of InstallShield is older than release 2010, please repair the integration by performing the InstallShield product repair method. To use the tsconfig utility method:
  1. Close the InstallShield IDE and verify no InstallShield command line builds are currently running.
  2. From the Windows Start Menu, open a Windows Command Prompt.
  3. Using the Windows 'Change Directory' command, go to the <InstallShield Product Installation>\System folder. By default, this directory is "C:\Program Files\InstallShield\2010\System":

cd ?C:\Program Files\InstallShield\2010\System?

  1. Enter the tsconfig command using the 'repairvsip' parameter:

tsconfig /repairvsip

Method 2: Repairing integration by performing a repair on the InstallShield product
This repair can be done by either inserting the original InstallShield installation CD or by running the setup from the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Windows Control Panel. Once launched, choose the Repair option in the Maintenance Mode dialog. This reinstalls the Visual Studio .NET integration functionality.
