Note: The examples show how to redirect stderr and stdout to a console window. In each of the examples, the word "console" (no quotes) could be replaced with the name of a text file, in which case the stderr and stdout would be redirected to that file.

To redirect stderr or stdout to the console every time your LaunchAnywhere executable is launched, you need to specify this setting from within the InstallAnywhere designer.

Follow these steps:

1. Launch InstallAnywhere

2. Open the project

3. Switch to "Advanced Mode"

4. Click on the "Install" task (in InstallAnywhere 6 this is called the "Files" task).

5. Locate the "LaunchAnywhere Executable" for the application which you wish to redirect output in the Files tree. It will be displayed with either a generic application icon, or a custom icon if one has been chosen.

6. In the LaunchAnywhere?s customizer window, click "Edit Properties..." button.

7. If you want stderr to be redirected to the console, select "LAX.stderr.redirect=" in the list shown, and type "console" in the "Value:" field. Do not enter the quotes around "console" and make sure it is in all lowercase

8. If you want stdout to be redirected to the console, select "LAX.stdout.redirect=" in the list shown, and type "console" in the "Value:" field. Do not enter the quotes around "console" and make sure it is in all lowercase

You can turn on the console for your application AFTER it has been installed for testing purposes as well. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Locate the folder where the application is installed. Let's call your application "MyApp" for example.

2. Locate "MyApp.lax". Open it with a text editor.

3. Find "LAX.stderr.redirect=" and add "console" (no quotes) to the end of the that line

4. Find "LAX.stdout.redirect=" and add "console" (no quotes) to the end of the that line

5. Save "MyApp.lax"

6. Launch the App normally. A console window should appear with the redirected stdout and stderr.
