When Amazon ECS replaces an instance marked as unhealthy, determining the cause of the issue may be important. You can review agent logs on the instance while it is still active or store them in Amazon CloudWatch for later analysis.
- Check agent logs on an existing ECS instance
- If the unhealthy instance has not yet been terminated, connect to the instance using SSH.
- Review the ECS agent logs as documented in the guide: Amazon ECS Agent Logs.
- Store ECS agent logs in CloudWatch
- Enable ECS agent log streaming to Amazon CloudWatch.
- Use the configuration steps outlined here: Using CloudWatch Logs with Amazon ECS.
By streaming logs to CloudWatch, you can review the ECS agent logs even after the instance has been terminated and replaced.
