This article explains how to transfer an entitlement when a part number that has been reassigned remains linked to a product version.
Scenario:
- A Customer owns Product_A in versions 1.0 and 1.1.
- Product_A (1.0) is associated with part number PN101.
- Entitlement "Ent-1" includes activation "Act-1", which is tied to Product_A version 1.0.
- Over time, part number PN101 moves from Product_A (1.0) to Product_A (1.1).
- Now, Product_A (1.0) no longer has PN101, but Product_A (1.1) does.
- However, Act-1 still references Product_A version 1.0.
Steps to Transfer the Line Item:
- Navigate to List Entitlements and select Transfer.
- Enter the Transfer Amount.
- Choose the Target Account.
- When prompted: “Do you want to transfer to a similar line item owned by the target account?” select No.
- Proceed to transfer the line item.
Issue Encountered:
Upon attempting the transfer, the following error message appears:
“Part number PN101 is not valid for line item Act-1. [Incident# XXXX-XXXX]”

Resolution:
To resolve the issue:
- Click the Edit link next to "Act-1".
- Remove PN101 from Product_A (1.0) by selecting a blank space.
- Click Save.
- Retry the transfer—it will now succeed.
