The Start migration button can appear grayed out when you try to migrate a workload to an AKS Ocean cluster. This usually happens when the cluster or its node groups don’t meet the requirements for migration. These checks help you identify what’s blocking the migration and how to resolve it.
- Check for system node pools
System node pools must run as regular AKS nodes and don’t require scaling. Ocean can’t migrate workloads that use system pools. - Confirm the cluster is running on AKS infrastructure
Migration works only if the Kubernetes cluster is an AKS cluster. If the cluster runs on another environment, the migration option stays disabled. - Verify the cluster is connected to Ocean
If the cluster isn’t connected to an Ocean cluster, migration isn’t available.
Import the AKS cluster into Ocean to enable migration. - Make sure the Ocean Controller is installed and running
The Ocean Controller must be installed, updated, and running in the cluster. If it isn’t present or is out of date, Ocean can’t perform migrations. - Check that the Kubernetes version is supported
If the cluster or virtual node group uses an unsupported Kubernetes version, the migration option won’t activate.
Update your Kubernetes version to one supported by Ocean. - Confirm you have dedicated virtual node groups for your workload
Migration requires virtual node groups that Ocean can scale. If your workload doesn’t have a dedicated virtual node group, Ocean autoscaling can’t manage it and migration remains unavailable.
After you resolve the configuration issues above, the Start migration button should activate, and you can migrate your workload into the AKS Ocean cluster.
