The Snow Update Service (SUS) certificate may appear as untrusted or display a warning in Windows.
This issue can occur after an update introduces a new SUS certificate. SUS uses a self‑signed certificate for validation, which Windows doesn’t trust by default. This article shows you how to verify the certificate and install it so Windows trusts it.
Before you start:
- Only install certificates from trusted sources. Use the steps below to verify the certificate.
- Do not add unknown certificates to the trusted root store.
- Follow your organization’s security policies and approval processes.
If you are unsure about the certificate, contact your internal IT or security team before proceeding.
Verify the certificate
Before installing, confirm the certificate matches the following details:
- Issuer: Snow Software AB
- Validity: 5 December 2025 to 5 December 2027
- Thumbprint: 12b64b7ace91dc5df3ef125eebe19398fbcdec8c
- Serial number: 57c7c3620407f0ba4f692c20b5dc0bf1
- Signature algorithm: sha256RSA
- Enhanced key usage: Code Signing (1.3.6.1.5.5.7.3.3)
- Source: obtained from your Snow Software installation package
Install the certificate
- Open the certificate file.
- Select Install Certificate.
- Choose Local Machine (administrator rights required).
- Select Place all certificates in the following store.
- Select Browse and choose Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
- Select OK, then Next, and Finish.
- Confirm the message: The import was successful.
After installation, Windows will trust the certificate, and related warnings should no longer appear.
