You can stop specific Kubernetes workloads from scaling down in Flexera Ocean. This is helpful when you want to keep certain pods running for longer periods or avoid disruptions to critical workloads. Ocean replaces nodes only when they become unhealthy or when a cloud provider forces an interruption.
-
Use the pod-level scale‑down restriction label
Add thespotinst.io/restrict-scale-down: "true"label to a pod or deployment to block proactive scaling down.
This label keeps the instance running as long as possible to support more efficient bin packing.
Add it to your pod or deployment manifest:metadata: labels: spotinst.io/restrict-scale-down: "true" -
Configure restrict scale down for a virtual node group
You can also apply restrict scale down at the virtual node group level.
This prevents nodes and the pods running on them from being replaced or scaled down due to autoscaler optimization. To configure this option:- Open the virtual node group.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Turn on Restrict Scale Down.
This option is available for AWS, ECS, and GKE environments.
After you apply one of these settings, Ocean keeps your selected pods or node groups running instead of scaling them down during optimization.
