In the Snow SaaS Management web UI, you may see some users with a blank value or a dash (“-”) in the full name or display name field. This behavior occurs due to limitations in how user information is collected from different data sources.
- By default, the Username column is hidden in the SaaS web UI.
- If you enable the Username column, you will see that these records contain a username.
- If you enable the Discovery type column, you will see that these entries are sourced from browser metering data.
For browser metering data:
- On Windows, the operating system does not always provide the full name or display name, so this information may be missing.
- On Mac, the operating system does not provide the full name at all for browser metering.
Impact
As a result:
- Users without a full name are displayed as “-” in the Name / Display name field.
- The Username field contains the only identifiable user information for those records (when enabled).
To ensure that users’ full names and display names are reliably available, configure Active Directory (AD) Discovery. This allows the system to pull accurate user details from AD source data, resolving the gaps left by browser metering.
