  1. Unable to list features for license file 1999@flex.cd-adapco.com

    Hi Community,

I'll say upfront that I am not a FlexNet user: I use a software by Siemens (Star-CCM+) which handles licensing through FlexNet. Siemens Support was not able to help so I am trying with this forum, apologies for my ignorance.

Basically, the software cannot connect to its license server (1999@flex.cd-adapco.com) only when I use a certain ISP (TIM, I am from Italy), whereas everything works fine if I use other ones.

    The error is the following:

Unable to list features for license file 1999@flex.cd-adapco.com

Unable to check feature 'server_id', line 6852 :

    FLEXnet error: (-15,10032)

    Troubleshooting I already did:

Trying DNS 8.8.8.8, trying a VPN, allowing software and ports via the antivirus and the firewall.

Would you have any suggestions? Thank you!

    Stefano

Hi @StefanoCampagnolo As per your statement, it clearly indicates that TIM’s network is blocking or interfering with the FlexNet license traffic. You will need to check whether any network rules or restrictions are configured on the TIM side. If so, please ensure that traffic to both the lmgrd and vendor daemon (VD) ports is allowed.

Alternatively, you may reach out to TIM support and report this issue for further assistance. Please ask TIM to allow outbound TCP traffic to the FlexNet license server ports.

      Best Regards,

  2. Implications on creating every device in FNO with 'runs license server'

We currently offer a device to be changed to a license server during the device's lifetime. However in addition to changing the option on the device, it must be newly created inside FNO with the corresponding 'runs license server' flag enabled. However this is a step that we would like to omit if possible, e.g. by registering every device inside FNO as a license server device. This way, when the option is set on the device itself, it will automatically work.

Our question is ... are there any implications (technical, security, etc.) if we create every device in FNO with this flag enabled?

  3. For a FlexNet license server, which program needs to have accessibility to designated TCP/IP port, where is it located?

We are trying to establish a FlexNet floating license server for an engineering tool that our team uses: PTC windchill risk and reliability. The server installation seems to be fine, but client machines are not able to access the server. Based on experience with other SWs, we are aware that our IT does not allow communication among computers inside our intranet (not sure why), we need to submit exception request to allow it case-by-case. During the license server configuration, we defined its communication port number, but IT still asks which program in the server computer needs to be allowed to communicate through this port. Without knowing such details, we provided the path of lmadmin.exe. However, after this exception request was approved and implemented, the license server still does not work. Can someone here tell whether lmadmin.exe is the right program that need to access TCP/IP port, and whether any other programs need accessibility to port as well? Thanks!

Hi @hayuqcom thank you for raising this query. Have you been able to establish a connection with the client, or are you still exploring a solution? If the client and server are located in different networks and an external firewall is involved, please confirm.

If so, kindly ensure that the ports for both are fixed in the license file. if not, then it will use the dynamic port for lmgrd

and the vendor daemon every restart.

After setting the static port, request your firewall team to allow inbound and outbound traffic for both ports. This configuration should resolve the issue.

  4. What is the most efficient way to check if the License Server is up and running?

We are notifying the application of server up/down via an event callback.

We are sending an `lc_vsend` and using the return value to check if the license server is up or down. However, we have noticed when a flex enabled application has many licenses checked out and the server is actually down, the `lc_vsend` takes a lot of time to return. Is there a faster way of checking if the license server is up or down?

We have tried using the return value of `lc_heartbeat` but we get false positives when we send a heartbeat for a job with no licenses checked out, it returns 0 regardless if the License Server is up or down.

Hi @z004mtbc , there is no direct API for the use case. But one workaround that you could test is to use the API lc_get_server_version. This is used to get the LMGRD/LMADMIN and Vendor version. If the API returns a value, then the server is up, and if it returns 0, then the server is down.

I would say use it with FNP_SERVER_TYPE_VENDOR_DAEMON and directly check the Vendor Daemon status.

  5. Will FlexNet Publisher (lmtools) work with FIPS enabled on the server?

We run versions 11.19.4, 11.16.2, and 11.16.6.0 on a Windows-based license server. We are being asked whether FIPS can be enabled on that server, as part of a certification process. Will enabling FIPS mode on the server prevent FlexNet from functioning properly?

  6. lmutil lmstat fails for one license server (Error -96,7: HOST_NOT_FOUND), while others work fine

    Hi FlexNet Community,

We are facing an issue using lmutil lmstat to query a vendor daemon running on a Linux server from a Windows machine.

    Setup:

We have three license servers running different vendor daemons.

From Windows, we use the command:

    lmutil.exe lmstat -a -c port@ip

    Two servers work perfectly

    One server fails with:

lmutil -96,7: "WinSock: Host not found (HOST_NOT_FOUND)"

    Details:

We confirmed that telnet 10.118.58.33 27001 works.

The Linux server is up, lmgrd and the vendor daemon are running.

The SERVER line in the license file uses the hostname

On the Windows machine, we added entry to the hosts file.

Still, lmutil fails, while it works fine with the other servers.

    Question:

Why does lmutil fail for this server when everything else (connectivity, daemon status, hostname mapping) seems fine?

Is there a hostname mismatch or configuration on the Linux license server that could cause this?

    Any guidance would be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

  7. FlexLM License Server - Client Can’t Connect (-15,3002)

We are facing an issue where the license can be checked out successfully on the server using lmdiag, but the client application fails with the following error:

Can't Connect to License Server (-15,3002): com.macrovision.flexlm.FlexlmException: Can't Connect to License Server (connect timed out)

The license file is configured with the correct hostname and port (e.g., 27002@hostname)

The license server status shows it's UP

Firewall on server side is not blocking the request

Any ideas on what could be causing this timeout during license checkout?

    Thanks in advance!
